Yohanan, an aging bachelor thirsting for love, enters Bella’s pharmacy to buy condoms. Bella is an aging single woman, also thirsting for love.
From opposite sides of the counter, a rare moment of intimacy develops between them.
The romance is interrupted when Shmuel, a bachelor and condom salesman determined to get rid of his merchandise, enters the pharmacy and offers Yohanan an attractive deal.
Yohanan is torn between Bella’s offer of love and Shmuel’s offer of a discount—and chooses love.
But just before the promise of love is fulfilled, doubts and suspicion unsettle Yohanan and Bella.
The negotiations continue, love is postponed, and hearts are broken.
In a sharp, funny, and painful satire, Hanoch Levin exposes the petty commerce underlying every human interaction—and how fear, pride, and small calculations turn love into yet another deal that no one dares to close.
