Almodóvar’s new and personal film tells the story of Raúl, a famous director in the midst of a writing crisis. Drawing inspiration from events in the life of his personal assistant, he creates the character of Elsa—a director writing her own screenplay, on a journey that will increasingly resemble his own. As the two screenwriters gradually become one, their lives turn into an intriguing game of truth, fiction, and one question: how far can one go for art?
