The true story of Nica Rothschild—a wealthy baroness and mother of five, trapped in the gilded cages of status and money in post–World War II Europe. A chance encounter with the music of Thelonious Monk, the brilliant and ostracized jazz pianist, shakes up her world.
Nica leaves everything behind and travels to 1950s New York, where she is drawn into the dark and liberated world of jazz and becomes a patron of Black musicians, including Monk and Charlie Parker. But freedom comes at a heavy price: breaking through racial and class barriers leads to media scandals, family ostracism, and personal collapse.
Nica must choose between the name “Rothschild” and true freedom—which is painful, dangerous, and demands sacrifice.
