The renowned soprano Dorothea Röschmann will perform, together with pianist Anna Kasyan, several of the greatest works in the Lied repertoire by Richard Strauss—the last of the German Lied composers. Strauss’s songs embody a rare relationship with the human voice, particularly the soprano voice. In his writing, the voice is the source of the music, not merely its performer; Strauss seems to listen to the voice as it dictates the song’s melodic interpretation.
