Hannah Arendt (1906-75) was one of the most important thinkers of the 20th century, a student and lover of the Nazi philosopher Martin Heidegger. A German-Jewish philosopher who narrowly escaped the Nazi regime and found refuge in the US with her husband, Hannah Arendt was hired by the prestigious magazine "The New Yorker" to cover the Eichmann trial in Jerusalem in 1961. Margarethe von Trotta, one of the most important creators of the New German Cinema, draws a personal and historical portrait and focuses on the four most important years in Arendt's life, turbulent years revolving around the Eichmann trial, during which she coined the term "the banality of evil."
