A memorial and leadership event for youth will take place on October 6, 2026, at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. The program includes a ceremony, lighting memorial candles, visiting the gravesites, and discussion circles.
“Youth Candle” is a national remembrance and leadership initiative by the Council of Children and Youth Organizations and the “Reef BaRibua” nonprofit, in partnership with the Jerusalem Youth Department. It serves as the younger generation’s response and expression for commemorating the victims of October 7 and the “Iron Swords” War.
The initiative’s core component is a dignified state ceremony at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem on October 6, 2026, attended by approximately 150 young participants from Jerusalem. The event includes a gathering, a central ceremony, the lighting of memorial candles, and visits to the gravesites of the war’s fallen, alongside intimate discussion circles expressing generational responsibility and mutual solidarity.
The initiative’s central connection to social engagement is reflected in the structured educational kit provided to every organization and youth center. The kit includes a framework for a preparation day and takes the youth on a journey from passive remembrance to active initiative: participants do not merely remember, but commit to practical social action in the community, from establishing volunteer initiatives, through assisting various populations, to leading additional discussion circles.
The leadership of the meetings and social initiatives by the youth constitutes an active and integral part of the “Social Engagement” program in schools and youth centers, instilling a culture of active citizenship and contribution to the community.
