The event explores the connection between the Hebrew language and the animal world through interactive formats. Participants will get acquainted with insects under the guidance of a guide and visit an exhibition of historical linguistic artifacts. The program is adapted for children aged 6 to 12 and requires adult accompaniment. The total program duration is approximately one and a half hours.
Together, we will discover what Hebrew tells us about the animal world, and what animals tell us about ourselves, human beings.
What’s on the program?
• Cows, Cats, and Bitterns – The Story of Hebrew and How It Manifests in the Animal World. A guided experiential session at the Academy’s Culture and Instruction Center. Reading ability is required.
• Little Giants – A face-to-face encounter with arthropods (yes, with the actual creatures!). Small yet vital to preserving our collective biological diversity and nature. Guided by a Magen HaChayot guide.
• On display at the center are Ben-Yehuda’s typewriter, the renowned lexicographer Even-Shoshan’s reference cards, a hundred-year-old children’s poetry book, and more.
Suitable for young children (ages 6–12, accompanied by an adult). Duration: approximately one and a half to two hours.
When? The activity takes place during the first two weeks of August, on Sundays and Tuesdays.
