New Exhibition - In the Womb of the World - Nobuya Yamaguchi
Engel Gallery presents a solo exhibition by Nobuya Yamaguchi, an artist who has lived and worked in Ein Hod since 1989. The exhibition features works created over the past year, dedicated to the themes of rebirth, renewal and life cycles.
We are pleased to invite you to the first solo exhibition of artist Nobuya Yamaguchi at the Engel Gallery. In the exhibition, Yamaguchi presents a variety of new works, all created in the past year, focusing on renewal, the cycles of life, and the processes of emergence hidden from view.
Last year's events have left their marks on all of us, and the thoughts about the cycle of life and its fragility have not faded. The works touch upon birth and the emergence of new life using imagery that comes – among other sources – from nature: seeds that split open and disperse a colorful blossom or droplets resembling embryos. Yamaguchi forges and moves the metal from within until it stretches and curves to give shape to what lies beyond form. The combination of the two material poles of metal – iron and stainless steel, which reflect and oxidize – alongside the natural forms of seeds and embryos in formation, creates fantastic and optimistic harmony.
Yamaguchi (Tokyo, 1963) has been living and creating in Ein Hod since 1989. The center of his work is metal sculpture, iron forging, and blacksmithing, from small works to large-scale installations in exhibition spaces and public areas. Often, Yamaguchi even incorporates additional organic materials such as wood and paper. Yamaguchi specialized in sculpture and metalworking at Tamagawa University.
