Daniel Oksenberg is a painter and ceramicist and the winner of the 2024 Osnat Moses Prize for Young Artists. The award gave Daniel the unique opportunity to hold a solo exhibition at the Jerusalem Artists House.
Oxenberg’s painting emerges from a search and a journey along an unknown path. He seems to seek to give form, color and material to the depths of the soul, places where words no longer work. Images appear and lose their form in an instant; flowers, fruits and recognizable organs appear and disappear among layers of paint. It is a painting that touches the void, gets lost and from there grows into something alive, surprising and unique.
The value of exploration and experimentation in Oxenberg’s paintings flows into the installation. The boundaries of the painting, like the boundaries of the image, are unraveled and open to question. The paintings become installations, expanding and stretching the possibilities of painting, turning painting into space and the exhibition space into a painting that goes beyond itself. The possibility that painting can be an installation is an internal position in Oxenberg’s work that arises from the freedom of painting to be experimental, searching and alive.
