Descriptiontranslated from Hebrew (original)

Want to discover how to grow fresh, healthy, local food—right here in the city?

You are invited to join an experiential, hands-on series of sessions at the Urban Agriculture Center, where we will learn about urban growing, gain practical experience working with soil and in a greenhouse, and understand how the journey from garden to plate can contribute to personal health, the community, and the environment.

During the course, we will learn how to create optimal conditions for growth; become familiar with innovative growing methods such as hydroponics and aquaponics; plant vegetables ourselves; and receive tools for continuing to grow at home or in the community. We will conclude the series with a delicious and inspiring session led by a clinical dietitian, connecting the produce we have grown with a healthy, balanced diet.

The sessions will take place at the “Aleh VeTzemach” Urban Agriculture Center at the Arts Center, on Thursdays from 09:30–11:00, beginning on 29.10.26, led by Eilat Shaham, a horticultural therapist specializing in sustainability and community.

What awaits you in the course?

First session: Opening a garden bed—an introduction to urban agriculture
An introduction to the world of urban agriculture, its benefits for the community and the environment, and the possibilities for growing food in urban spaces.

Second session: Conditions for proper growth
We will learn the fundamentals of growing: soil composition, fertilization, irrigation, the plant life cycle, and the conditions required for optimal growth.

Third session: Behind the scenes of the greenhouse
We will learn how a greenhouse works, what advantages it offers for growing plants, and become familiar with the practical work that takes place inside it.

Fourth session: Growing without soil—hydroponics and aquaponics
An introduction to advanced, resource-efficient growing methods: growing in water, hydroponic systems, and the connection between growing plants and fish in aquaponics.

Fifth session: I choose how to continue growing
A practical session in which we will transfer seedlings from the greenhouse and plant vegetable starters. We will examine different ways to continue growing at home, on a balcony, in a garden, or in a community space.

Sixth session: From garden to plate
A delicious concluding session led by Chen Dagan, a clinical dietitian. We will learn about the nutritional value of vegetables and herbs, discuss incorporating them into daily meals, and connect home growing, seasonality, sustainability, and healthy nutrition.
