Dance performance BOLERO X — three works by Shahar Binyamini with symphonic music. The performance lasts approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
After its resounding success and rave reviews, the performance BOLERO X by the world-renowned Israeli choreographer Shahar Binyamini will be presented for the first time at the Haifa Auditorium.
This powerful journey at the intersection of contemporary dance and symphonic music is performed by 30 dancers from the Beer Sheva Dance House Dance Company. The performance marks the first creative collaboration of its kind between choreographer Shahar Binyamini and composer Ariel Blumenthal. Original music, recorded by the Ma’apheh Orchestra under the direction of Roi Oppenheim, accompanies the production throughout the first two parts of the evening.
The program features three works.
A powerful choreographic composition that reexamines questions of rhythm, the body, and collectivity as they emerged at key moments in the history of modern dance.
Before the audience unfolds a timeless, almost ritualistic space, where the collective body becomes a single living organism, while the individual constantly balances between dissolving into the shared movement and inner resistance. The movement develops from an inner impulse into collective action, giving rise to a sensual, almost mystical experience of a ritual taking shape before our eyes.
Especially for the performance, Ariel Blumenthal composed an original symphonic score in which traditional acoustic instruments are combined with electronics, guitars, percussion, and synthesizers, creating a rich, multilayered, and unexpected soundscape.
A work that reinterprets ideas of space, image, and sensation that developed at the beginning of the 20th century.
The choreography moves along a fine line between mysticism and sensuality, minimalism and powerful physical outbursts, between the individual and the world around them, and between attraction and detachment. It is a timeless space where the body becomes memory, longing, and inner impulse.
In collaboration with composer Ariel Blumenthal, a new musical layer emerges, entering into dialogue with familiar themes and offering a contemporary interpretation of them in a rich orchestral arrangement heard on the soundtrack.
The evening concludes with BOLERO X—a choreographic embodiment of the iconic musical form based on repetition, gradual buildup, and the continuous intensification of tension.
All movement is built around a single rhythmic pattern that changes its nuances and energetic intensity step by step. The choreography explores the tension between the individual and the collective, control and surrender, discipline and the uncontrollable passion of movement.
Through impeccable precision and hypnotic repetition, a gripping physical experience emerges, reminiscent of an ancient ritual in which all the lines of the performance converge in a single climax.
Performance duration: approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
