Pesnyary

When you hear the names Valery Deineko, Igor Penya, Oleg Averin, or Alexander Katikov, the first thought is: “Pesnyary”! No further clarification is needed, because today they are the direct successors of Pesnyary’s true legacy. These artists, who joined the ensemble under Vladimir Mulyavin, preserve the unique singing traditions of the legendary Belarusian VIA’s “golden” lineup.

From November 17 to 23, the Belarusian Legends, who once formed the musical foundation of Mulyavin’s Pesnyary, will tour Israel for the first time.

The ensemble’s concert features numerous hits written by Pesnyary and for Pesnyary over the years, forming the celebrated VIA’s “Golden Collection.” Their “crystal-clear” polyphony literally envelops the audience, with every song followed by long, thunderous applause. Wherever the group performs, their shows invariably pass in one breath.

Legendary songs have a legendary past. Although many of the compositions were written nearly half a century ago, they consistently immerse audiences in an incomparable atmosphere of joy and celebration. The secret is simple: a unique combination of authentic motifs and modern musical sound, multiplied by the exceptional vocal abilities of the ensemble’s soloists.

The group’s current repertoire and songwriting traditions largely follow Vladimir Mulyavin’s principles. Oleg Averin, Valery Deineko, and Alik Katikov—participants in and authors of many of the ensemble’s songs—skillfully create a distinctive rhythmic foundation using the exceptional capabilities of modern musical instruments. This foundation is rooted in the innovative musical principles Mulyavin established back in the 1970s.

Above all, this means the signature Pesnyary four-part harmony: although it is incredibly difficult, it is equally beautiful! The new arrangements therefore resonate strongly with the classic originals beloved by Pesnyary fans.

Ensemble members

Valery Deineko — legendary soloist of the Pesnyary ensemble, Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus. Although he once gave up a solo career in favor of collective creativity, for many decades he has effectively remained the finest male voice in his country.

Igor Penya — permanent soloist of the Pesnyary ensemble, Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus. For more than 40 years, his voice has been heard in unforgettable songs such as “Vologda,” “Birch Sap,” “Alesya,” “Belarus,” and others. If Valery Deineko is called a “golden tenor,” Igor Penya represents power, lyricism, and an incredible vocal range.

Oleg Averin — vocals, keyboards, guitar, ensemble composer, and performer of songs including “Our Loved Ones,” “Half an Hour Before Spring,” “How Deep Is Your Love,” and others. It is impossible to imagine today’s ensemble without his songs and arrangements. His versatility and talent are boundless—from arrangements of melodic folk songs for Pesnyary to performing at joint concerts with Deep Purple.

Alexander Katikov — virtuoso bass guitarist, vocalist, and composer; a key figure in the ensemble. Alexander is a versatile musician who makes a significant contribution to the group’s modern sound. He is the author of many songs that have entered the group’s “golden collection.”

Alexander Solovyov — lead guitar, vocals, and the ensemble’s “guitar voice.” His arrival helped preserve the group’s drive and modern guitar sound. Alexander is a highly technical guitarist who takes on the most demanding solo parts and participates in creating the group’s signature harmonies.

Maxim Pugachyov — keyboardist, composer, and author of many of the ensemble’s arrangements for popular songs such as “Kasiў Yas Kanyshynu,” “Alesya,” “Zacharovanaya Maya,” and many others.

Alexander Poprotsky — longtime and permanent sound engineer of the group. He is the one who shapes the ensemble’s unmistakable, recognizable sound.
