This is a powerful journey at the intersection of contemporary dance and symphonic music with the participation of 30 dancers. The program includes three parts: APRIL, ARISE, and BOLERO X, each of which explores unique aspects of movement and sound.
Following its grand success and enthusiastic reviews, the show "BOLERO X" by world-renowned Israeli choreographer Shahar Binyamini will be presented for the first time at the Haifa Auditorium.
This powerful journey sits at the intersection of contemporary dance and symphonic music, performed by 30 dancers from the Dance Company of the Beer-Sheva Dance House. The production marks the first creative collaboration between choreographer Shahar Binyamini and composer Ariel Blumenthal. Original music, recorded by the Tizmoret Maapacha ensemble under the direction of Roi Oppenheim, accompanies the performance during the first two parts of the evening.
The program features three works.
Part One: APRIL
A powerful choreographic composition that reimagines questions of rhythm, body, and collective identity, formed at key moments in the history of modern dance.
An timeless, almost ritualistic space unfolds before the audience, where the collective body transforms into a single living organism, and the individual constantly balances between dissolving into the general movement and internal resistance. The physicality evolves from inner impulse to collective action, giving birth to a sensual, almost mystical experience of a rite taking place before our eyes.
For this production, Ariel Blumenthal created an original symphonic score, combining traditional acoustic instruments with electronics, guitars, percussion, and synthesizers to create a rich, multi-layered, and unexpected sonic landscape.
Part Two: ARISE
A work that reinterprets ideas of space, image, and sensation developed in the early 20th century.
The choreography moves along a fine line between mysticism and sensuality, minimalism and powerful bodily surges, between the human and their surrounding world, and between attraction and detachment. It is a timeless space where the body becomes memory, aspiration, and inner drive.
In collaboration with composer Ariel Blumenthal, a new musical layer emerges, entering into dialogue with familiar themes and offering a contemporary reading through a dense orchestral arrangement, heard on the soundtrack.
Part Three: BOLERO X
The evening concludes with BOLERO X—a choreographic embodiment of the iconic musical form based on repetition, gradual buildup, and continuous intensification of tension.
All movement revolves around a single rhythmic pattern, which gradually changes its shades and energy levels. The choreography explores the tension between personality and collectivity, control and surrender, discipline and unstoppable passion.
Thanks to impeccable precision and hypnotic repetitiveness, a captivating physical experience is born, reminiscent of an ancient ritual, where all lines of the performance converge into a single climax.
Duration: Approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Choreography and Artistic Direction: Shahar Binyamini
Troupe Director: Shahar Dori
