Inspired by the real experiences of Ethiopian Jewish immigrants to Israel, the novel follows fourteen-year-old Azmera as she undertakes a dangerous journey from Ethiopia to Israel during the mass immigration of the 1980s. Arriving in a country that feels both foreign and deeply connected to her identity, Azmera must navigate family struggles, cultural displacement, and painful discoveries about her past.

Drawing from her own life in Israel and her longstanding connection to immigrant stories and social justice work, Kim Saltzman brings both emotional depth and historical insight to this powerful conversation.
