"Alice in Wonderland" by Anatoly Weissman

Featuring the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra

A joint project by ArtUP and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra

The magnificent, versatile, and beloved actor Anatoly Weissman in the literary and musical production of Alice in Wonderland.

This is a combination of different art forms on a single stage. A production for the whole family: for children who can unconditionally believe in the impossible, and for adults who remember that the world is much broader than conventional logic and rules. Theater, music, animation, and visual imagery meet in a theatrical fantasy where reality and imagination constantly alternate.

The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra’s chamber ensemble weaves Lewis Carroll’s story together with music by great composers: Tchaikovsky, Grieg, Dvořák, Mendelssohn, Elgar, and other prominent composers, performed by Israel’s finest musicians.

Alice in Wonderland is a story not only about a whimsical world of fantasy, but also about childhood, growing up, and a young person’s perspective on the complex and strange world of adults. Carroll’s world is paradoxical, which is precisely why it resonates so deeply with children and adults alike: with children because its rules awaken the freedom of imagination, and with adults because it reminds them of their ability to wonder, ask questions, and see the familiar from an unexpected perspective.

The combination of text, music, and Anatoly Weissman’s outstanding performance is complemented by original sand animation by Marina Sosnina and artistic direction by Sasha Khakhan. The characters emerge from the screen into the stage and auditorium, only to disappear once again into their fantastic world, creating a new dimension for the unfolding events and inviting the audience to join Alice on a journey filled with wonder, color, and new meanings.

The performance is in Russian.
