Oil Painting Master Class by Artist Gennady Shontsu

We invite you to our new master class in the Old Masters series, featuring the work of German artist Johann Wilhelm Preyer, a master of still life. The great success of Johann Wilhelm Preyer’s paintings was based on his special skills in a painting technique that brought his canvases close to naturalism.

To succeed in this genre, you will need to carefully study the subject and strive to depict it as accurately and realistically as possible.

In this course, you will paint realistic fruit, learn to see color, sense form, and accurately determine which oil-painting methods and techniques are suitable for depicting the elements of a still life. When is it best to paint alla prima, and when should you use glazing? Gennady Shontsu will explain this during the lessons.

The course runs from October 6 to November 24 and will take place on Tuesdays, from 18:30 to 20:30, at Gennady Shontsu’s Drawing and Painting Studio.
