A musical performance bringing together liturgical poetry from the Jews of the East and the Maghreb with Hasidic melodies from Eastern Europe. Featuring Naor Carmi, Erez Lev Ari, Shir David Gadasi, and Daniel Saadon.
Simchat Olam – Maḥaleb Lavizhinits – When Nigun Meets Piyut
A unique performance bringing together two central wellsprings of Jewish creativity: the piyut of the Jewish communities of the East and the Maghreb, and the Hasidic nigun of Eastern Europe.
Featuring Naor Carmi, Erez Lev Ari, Shir David Gadesi, Daniel Saadon, and the Israeli Andalusian Orchestra, the performance creates a musical journey across communities, traditions, and borders.
Between Safed, Aleppo, Vizhnitz, and Morocco, a shared spiritual language of longing, devotion, and joy emerges. The songs of the paytanim and the melodies of the Hasidim meet on one stage, revealing the closeness between worlds that once seemed far apart and breathing new life into centuries-old spiritual treasures. Through rich orchestral arrangements and soulful performances, a living bridge is woven between East and East—between the lands of the East and Eastern Europe, between piyut and nigun, and between different traditions united by the same spiritual yearning.
Participants:
Naor Carmi: double bass, yaylı tambur, arrangements
Erez Lev Ari: vocals and guitar
Shir David Gadesi: vocals and oud
Daniel Saadon: vocals
Conductor: Roi Azulay
Artistic Director: Elad Levi
