The new and intriguing ensemble Reverie brings original material to the stage from the collaborative album by Uri Kaplan (“Balkan Beat Box”) and Liaho Melamed. In honor of its festival debut, the compositions were expanded and specially arranged for an ensemble of seven musicians, placing the wind instruments at the forefront of the artistic language and using them as the melodic, harmonic, and dramatic engine of the performance.
The ensemble’s music draws inspiration from cinematic jazz, European film soundtracks of the 1960s and ’70s, and the psychedelia characteristic of that era. The compositions combine broad, richly developed melodies with free-flowing improvisation, hypnotic grooves, and colorful, multilayered orchestration.
This is a cinematic musical journey that moves sensitively between intimate, hushed, and exposed moments and powerful, full-bodied fusion passages. The performance invites listeners to drift into a dynamic artistic landscape, rich in acoustic textures that create an enveloping multisensory experience.
