Jazz music arrived in Israel as early as the 1930s with immigrants from Europe, particularly Germany. But it was the “Sabras,” who entered the scene prominently in the 1950s, who shaped the local sound and became the first generation of Israeli jazz musicians. For their unprecedented work laying the foundations for the genre in Israel, these legends earned the grand title “the Founders’ Generation.”

These jazz pioneers, now in their ninth decade of life, are undoubtedly a generation of giants of Israeli culture. Despite the passing years, they are still going strong, playing with vigor, vitality, and passion. The Founders Quintet will present the audience with a selection of classic and original jazz pieces, performed with captivating expressiveness. This is a rare and historic opportunity to see, live and on one stage, the founding fathers of Israeli jazz, displaying the high artistic standards and melodic sensitivity that only those who have lived and breathed this music for seven decades can produce.
