The Jerusalem Orchestra East and West, conducted by Maestro Tom Cohen, brings an exhilarating orchestral experience to the Jazz Festival stage, combining local stars with young and promising soloists. At the heart of the performance are cellist Maya Balzitsman and pianist Guy Mintus, two of the most versatile and compelling voices in Israeli music. Together with the orchestra, they will perform original works they composed especially for the ensemble’s instrumentation.
Alongside them, a special spotlight will shine on three young virtuoso soloists from the orchestra itself: Yulia Lokomtsov on Turkish cello, Dror Yehezkel on qanun, and Roy Zuzovsky on trumpet. Together and separately, the artists will present a personal and dazzling interpretation of classics born along the vibrant musical axis between the ornate melismas of the Ottoman Empire and the modern golden trumpet inspired by Ibrahim Maalouf, who brought quarter tones to the world’s greatest jazz halls.
