Ethiopian Afro-Jazz and Soul Music That Penetrates Deeply
Avטה בריהון – vocals, saxophones | Roy Mor – piano | David Michaeli – bass | Nitzan Birnbaum – drums
“Addis Ken” (“A New Day” in Amharic) is a unique project full of groove and soul, led by international saxophonist and vocalist Avטה בריהון, one of the most captivating and prominent voices in Israeli music today. Together with pianist Roy Mor, Berihun leads an ensemble that brings together ancient Ethiopian traditions and the rich language of modern jazz.
The ensemble performs original compositions that combine traditional Ethiopian Jewish music passed down from generation to generation, alongside ancient texts that move between prayer, deep remembrance, and spiritual searching. Following the launch of their debut album on the acclaimed American label Origin Records, and just before an international tour, the ensemble comes to Eilat to present a rich sound woven from blues, African groove, and sweeping soul jazz.
