About the Play
Batya, a young ultra-Orthodox woman and mother of three, lives in Jerusalem according to a carefully structured routine. Her world is suddenly thrown into turmoil when she receives suspicious photographs in the mail of her beloved husband, Leizer, and discovers that he is being blackmailed by a local gang.
The revelation shakes the couple’s lives and sends Batya on a journey of awakening, self-discovery, and the search for emotional and feminine freedom.
The play was written based on a screenplay by Mindy Ehrlich, who grew up in Jerusalem’s ultra-Orthodox community, and which became a critically acclaimed, award-winning film directed by Nir Bergman.
The production brings a rare ultra-Orthodox female voice to the stage and reveals the human complexity behind the walls of silence.
