The local elections are approaching, and the veteran, authoritarian mayor, Moshe Schwarzman, is worried that no candidate dares to run against him. Without an opponent, there is no campaign—and without a campaign, the donors’ wallets remain closed. Besides, people might start calling him a dictator, while democracy is his guiding principle.
So what can be done?
To create the appearance of a fair election, they must find a fake candidate—someone “whose family would be the only ones to vote for him, and even they would hesitate first.” When the cleaner enters the office and starts cleaning, it is clear to everyone that the perfect candidate has been found.
Her name is Ilana. And she is here to stay!
