TIMUR SHAUOV - “It Would Be Nice to Become a Jew!”

In December, Israel will host the long-awaited concerts of Timur Shaov, one of the most outstanding, witty, and beloved singer-songwriters of our time.

After a long break, the artist returns to Israeli audiences with his new program, “It Would Be Nice to Become a Jew…!”

Timur Shaov is often called the “musical Mikhail Zhvanetsky.” Like the great satirist, he knows how to address the most serious subjects with brilliant humor, subtle irony, and remarkably precise observations. His songs have long been part of the cultural landscape of the Russian-speaking world, and many of his lines have become quotations and aphorisms.

His work is a unique combination of singer-songwriter music, literature, theater, philosophy, and stand-up comedy. His songs contain everything: laughter and sadness, love and history, reflections on time and humanity, delicate lyricism, and merciless satire.

Boris Strugatsky compared Timur Shaov’s work to the songs of Alexander Galich and Yuli Kim, while Yuli Kim himself compared it to the songs of Vladimir Vysotsky and Galich. Over the years, Timur Shaov has created his own inimitable genre, impossible to confuse with anyone else’s.

Joining Timur Shaov onstage will be his longtime collaborators and members of the legendary “dream team” — virtuoso musicians Mikhail Makhovich (mandolin) and Andrei Kudryavtsev (accordion, keyboards). Their skill, musical passion, and wonderful sense of humor have long been an integral part of Shaov’s concerts.

PRESENTATION OF A NEW BOOK

A special event of the evening will be the presentation of Timur Shaov’s new book, “The Constellation of Expired Fish.” This unique anthology of the author’s selected songs spans more than three decades of his work — from his first pieces of the 1990s to his newest texts from 2025.

The book will be a true gift for fans and a wonderful opportunity to touch the creative history of one of the most distinctive authors of our time.
