Bass and Jazz

Some voices simply sound. Others stay with you long after the final chord…

Lev Elgardt possesses a rare voice—a basso profondo—and is a graduate of the Saint Petersburg Conservatory and the Mariinsky Theatre’s Academy of Young Singers. A laureate of international competitions and winner of the Grand Prix in Berlin, he is an Israeli opera soloist who has taken part in numerous concerts, opera productions, and festivals in Israel and abroad.

Yakov Muravin is the project’s musical director: a pianist who brings together classical training, rock drive, and jazz freedom. He is one of the leading bandleaders on the Israeli music scene.

The concert will also feature singer Debora Benasouli (France–Israel), one of the country’s leading jazz vocalists and winner of the Jazz Diva competition. She has participated in international festivals. In 2017, together with Yakov Muravin, she won a blues competition in Israel and represented the country in Memphis.

The concert will feature virtuoso musicians:

• Igor Senderov (alto saxophone), winner of the B-Jazz International competition and a graduate of the Saint Louis College of Music in Rome
• Valery Rovinsky (bass guitar, double bass)
• Bar Shenav (drums), a graduate of Berklee College of Music

The program will include original compositions, original jazz arrangements, romances, Yiddish songs, and famous hits from Muslim Magomayev’s repertoire.

Come and listen to music born at the intersection of tradition, improvisation, and three cultures. It is an evening after which you will want to say: “Now that’s jazz.”
