Valery Panov, a one-of-a-kind classical ballet dancer, performed on the most important dance stages in the Soviet Union, the United States, and Europe. His astonishing dancing talent was recognized around the world, except that he had one disadvantage: he was Jewish.
The film presents the moving and painful journey of a rare artist, and his relentless pursuit of absolute freedom to dance and live. His wives and children paid the personal price for his dedication to dance.
The Dancer follows Panov and his dancers’ struggle to survive in Israeli reality, and reveals the artist’s loneliness. Rare archival dance footage is interwoven with a love story and the protagonist’s fascinating journey through Russia.
