ATTENTION — ADDITIONAL CONCERT IN ASHDOD!
Actress of rare creative freedom Yulia Rutberg — in Israel from November 6 to 12!
“There is no fourth wall in cabaret. There are only the artist and the audience.” — Yulia Rutberg
Some evenings end with the final applause.
Others stay with us for a long time.
“Stray Dog Cabaret” is one of Yulia Rutberg’s most unusual performances, where theater ceases to be a stage and becomes a living conversation woven from music, poetry, humor, memories, and remarkable human stories.
On this evening, the stage will stop being a stage—it will become an intimate cabaret:
Tonight, Akhmatova and Brodsky will gather here.
At the neighboring table, Ranevskaya and Mironov are already arguing.
Vertinsky is playing at the piano. It seems all that remains is to find an empty seat…
And after them come Yury Yakovlev and Mikhail Ulyanov—in witty stories, theatrical legends, and memories that Yulia Rutberg recounts as though all these extraordinary people have just stepped out of the dressing room. Don’t worry—they all get along wonderfully.
Lines by Osip Mandelstam, Bulat Okudzhava, David Samoilov, and Igor Severyanin ring out. Great poetry suddenly sounds as though it was written today—it becomes alive and unexpectedly close.
Alongside it come vivid stories about Faina Ranevskaya, Andrei Mironov, Yury Yakovlev, and Mikhail Ulyanov—funny and touching. They seem to walk onto the stage, becoming participants in a grand theatrical evening.
This is how an entire era comes to life in Yulia Rutberg’s performance.
This is not a concert.
Not an artistic evening.
Not an evening of poetry, although there will be more than enough poetry this evening.
This is real cabaret—vibrant, free, ironic, and emotional. There is no fourth wall here, no customary distance between the artist and the audience.
Every performance is born anew, because Yulia Rutberg’s principal partner is the audience.
She sings.
Tells theatrical stories.
Jokes.
Transforms.
Improvises.
In this performance, it is impossible to draw a boundary between literature, music, theater, and variety performance.
Here, intellectual depth easily coexists with subtle humor.
Lyricism—with self-irony.
Laughter—with gentle sadness.
And the intimate atmosphere unexpectedly turns into a true theatrical celebration.
It is no coincidence that the performance has been part of the Vakhtangov Theatre’s repertoire for many years and has enjoyed continued success in different countries, becoming one of Yulia Rutberg’s favorite evenings.
There are actors recognized by their roles.
There are those recognized by their voices.
And there are artists who cannot be confused with anyone else.
Yulia Rutberg is one of them.
A leading actress of the Vakhtangov Theatre, People’s Artist of Russia, and recipient of the prestigious Crystal Turandot and Chaika theatrical awards, she is one of the brightest actresses of our time.
The actress herself says:
“There is no fourth wall in cabaret. The artist’s main partner is the audience. I sang, danced, read poetry, and told stories…and many spectators later said they had the feeling that I had spoken personally with each one of them…”
Perhaps this is one of those rare performances after which spectators leave the hall not only admiring the acting, but also with an astonishing sense of inner light.
As though, over the course of one evening, they had met people they had loved for a long time, heard their favorite music, rediscovered familiar lines, and remembered why theater remains the most living of all the arts.
“Stray Dog Cabaret” is an evening that will stay with you.
The performance features pianist Alexey Voronkov, laureate of international competitions.
