Some evenings end with the final applause. But others remain in the memory for a long time.

“Stray Dog Cabaret” is one of Yulia Rutberg’s most unique projects, where theater becomes not merely a stage, but live communication through music, poetry, humor, and people’s stories.

That evening, the stage will turn into an intimate cabaret: Akhmatova and Brodsky will be there, Ranevskaya and Mironov will already be chatting at the next table, and Vertinsky’s melodies will flow from beneath the grand piano. It seems all that remains is to find an empty seat…

They will be followed by Yuri Yakovlev and Mikhail Ulyanov in witty anecdotes, theatrical legends, and memories that Yulia Rutberg brings back to life as though they had just stepped out of the dressing room. Don’t worry—there will be room for everyone.

The words of Osip Mandelstam, Bulat Okudzhava, David Samoilov, and Igor Severyanin come alive outside of time, becoming relevant and unexpected. Alongside them emerge vivid stories about Faina Ranevskaya, Andrei Mironov, Yuri Yakovlev, and Mikhail Ulyanov—they come alive once again before the audience.

This is not simply a concert. Not a literary evening. Not an evening of poetry, although there will be plenty of poems. This is a true cabaret—fresh, free, ironic, and full of emotion.

There is no fourth wall here and no traditional division between the artist and the audience. Every performance is unique, because Yulia Rutberg’s main partner is the audience.

She sings. Tells stories. Jokes. Transforms. Improvises.

In this performance, the boundaries between literature, music, theater, and variety entertainment disappear. Intellectual substance blends with humor, lyricism with self-irony, and laughter is accompanied by gentle sadness.

It is no surprise that the performance has been part of the Vakhtangov Theatre’s repertoire for many years and has been successful in various countries, becoming one of Yulia Rutberg’s favorites.

Among actors, there are those recognized by their roles or voices. But there are artists who cannot be confused with anyone else. Yulia Rutberg is one of them.

A leading actress of the Vakhtangov Theatre, People’s Artist of Russia, winner of the Crystal Turandot and Seagull awards, she is one of the most outstanding actresses of our time.

The actress herself says:

“In cabaret, there is no fourth wall. The artist’s main partner is the audience. I sang, danced, read poetry, told stories… and many audience members felt as though I was speaking personally with each one of them…”
