"Voice of the Bride"

The wedding dress is reimagined as a cultural, artistic, and contemporary object. Layers of lace, silk, and dreams merge into a single moment on the wedding dress—perhaps the most emotionally charged item of clothing in the human wardrobe.

Resting on its shoulders is the weight of generations, family traditions, and personal identity, yet it is as light as a promise. Typically worn only once, it carries memories, traditions, dreams, and cultural images accumulated over centuries.

Over the centuries and across different cultures, the wedding dress has changed in color, fabric, and form: from colorful and embroidered dresses to the white dress that Queen Victoria wore on her wedding day—a moment that turned white into the most recognizable color in the entire Western world. Since then, the white dress has become a cultural icon, constantly transforming and being reinterpreted over time.

The "Voice of the Bride" exhibition, held in collaboration with Portfolio magazine at Klang House in Ashdod, is part of promoting the vision "Ashdod – City of Fashion," positioning Ashdod as a significant center for creativity, design, and fashion in Israel.

"Voice of the Bride" is the fourth fashion exhibition opening this year as part of realizing this vision, alongside exhibitions such as "Working Fashion" by designer Doreen Frankfurt, "Going Out: Fashion!" and "The Seam Line."

The exhibition highlights Ashdod's role as a space for creativity, renewal, and cultural dialogue, connecting fashion, identity, and community through six fashion houses specializing in wedding dress design operating in Ashdod, historical displays, and modern interpretations.

Additionally featured are: a wall of miniatures by young designers from Shankar’s Department of Fashion Design; an installation deconstructing a wedding dress to reveal the work and complexity behind it; and a historical axis tracing the changes in wedding dresses over the years.

According to Amit Sandik, Fashion Editor of Portfolio magazine and curator of the exhibition: "'Voice of the Bride' connects tradition with modern interpretation and invites viewers to take another look at one of the most recognizable, intriguing, and richly layered dresses in the world of fashion. Through the works of local designers, historical displays, and modern interpretations, the exhibition aims to open a new perspective on the wedding dress and the cultural, social, and personal meanings it carries."
