The timeless ballet classic The Sleeping Beauty, in the version of the Russian Ballet Theatre under the direction of Vyacheslav Gordeyev, comes to Israel in the fall of 2026, to the delight of all ballet lovers.
Classical Russian ballet and Tchaikovsky’s magnificent music, performed by one of the world’s leading ballet companies, have long been more than an aesthetic pleasure—they are a way to heal the soul and fill oneself with the beauty and harmony contained in this masterpiece.
The ballet The Sleeping Beauty is considered an encyclopedia of classical dance. This magical story, based on Charles Perrault’s famous fairy tale, has remained on the stages of the world’s leading theatres for more than a century, since the historic and brilliant premiere directed by Marius Petipa, which took place in 1890 on the stage of the Mariinsky Theatre.
Tchaikovsky’s musical genius, Marius Petipa’s brilliant choreography, and the dramatic libretto dealing with the power of true love and loyalty, and the eternal struggle between good and evil—all combined to create an unforgettable masterpiece. A work that captures our hearts and makes us want to enjoy it again and again, even when we know every twist in the plot and every note of the music.
The Russian Ballet Theatre presents the ballet The Sleeping Beauty in the spectacular direction and adaptation of Vyacheslav Gordeyev, People’s Artist of the Soviet Union, based on the original libretto by Ivan Vsevolozhsky and Marius Petipa. For this extraordinary production, Gordeyev was awarded the prestigious prize of the Association of Western European Promoters for “The Most Grandiose Production of 2000”!
Against the backdrop of Tchaikovsky’s timeless music and Marius Petipa’s magnificent choreography, this production combines the magic of classical Russian ballet with lavish sets, costumes adorned with gold details, and virtuoso performances by dancers from the theatre’s principal company.
A legend of Russian ballet, Vyacheslav Gordeyev—the superstar dancer and legendary principal of the Bolshoi Theatre—devoted his entire life to the art of ballet and demonstrated his virtuoso talent as a choreographer as well. As a choreographer, Gordeyev captured the hearts and earned the admiration of international ballet critics. In 1992, following the theatre’s spectacular tour of Europe, he was awarded the prestigious title of “Choreographer of the Year,” followed by a special award from Maurice Béjart himself!
The National Russian Ballet Theatre has earned an honored status on the world ballet stage. Among ballet lovers, both in Russia and around the world, the company enjoys immense and well-deserved popularity, standing alongside such major and prestigious theatres as the Bolshoi Theatre and the Mariinsky Theatre.
The production has received acclaim worldwide, and now you can experience it here in Israel!
International recognition soon followed: In its review of the Russian Ballet Theatre, the English newspaper Western Morning News spared no praise and declared emphatically: “It is only rarely that we are granted the privilege of witnessing contemporary Russian talent at the height of its glory!” In Germany, the Russian Ballet achieved an even more impressive accomplishment, receiving the prestigious “Golden Ticket”—an indication that more than one hundred thousand spectators attended its performances during a single tour! The theatre, which the British newspaper The Journal called “a showcase for ballet talent,” received an enormous honor and was named by the Association of Western European Promoters “The Best Ballet Company in Europe”!
