The second program in the Talking Memory series, Children, Trauma, and the Work of Recovery — From the Holocaust to October 7, revisits the Kindertransport through the experiences of children who were separated from their families, exploring testimony, memory, trauma, and resilience across generations.

The Kindertransport has long been understood through the testimonies of those who experienced it as children. Drawing on newly discovered archival material at Yad Vashem, Dr. Amy Williams revisits these testimonies alongside documents that have come to light more than eight decades later, challenging established narratives and illuminating new dimensions of the Kindertransport experience. She will also consider the experiences of Kinder and their families in the aftermath of October 7.

Dr. Amir Peleg brings a contemporary perspective to questions of testimony, memory, and historical continuity through his interviews with Holocaust survivors who also experienced the October 7 massacre in communities of the western Negev. Their testimonies offer a rare opportunity to examine how survivors understand the relationship between these two experiences and what they wish to convey to younger generations.

Together, the talks explore the evolving nature of testimony and historical memory, and the ways newly uncovered voices and archival evidence can reshape our understanding of the past and its continuing relevance to the present.
