The Charm of Epirus and the Pearl of Thessaly
Group trip through Northern Greece, October 15–20: Thessaloniki, Meteora, Epirus, Zagori, and Vergina.
During the “golden autumn,” I invite you to Northern Greece :)
We will begin our journey in ancient Macedonia, the land of Alexander and Philip. We will get acquainted with beautiful Thessaloniki and admire Mount Olympus from the car window.
We will then travel to Thessaly, where we will explore Meteora—the monasteries on the rocks, seemingly floating in the sky.
After crossing the Pindus mountain range, we will arrive in Epirus. Here we will enjoy the nature of the magnificent Tzoumerka mountain range and visit beautiful mountainous Zagori.
On our way back to Thessaloniki, we will see Vergina. Philip II ruled from here, and this is also where Alexander the Great’s father and son are buried.
Trip itinerary
October 15
- Early in the morning, we arrive at Thessaloniki Airport. Tour of Thessaloniki with a local guide.
- Transfer to Meteora.
- Watch the sun set and admire the beautiful sunset in Meteora.
Overnight at a hotel in the town of Kalambaka.
October 16
- After breakfast at the hotel, we will set out on a tour of Meteora. We will admire the “floating” rocks and the monasteries attached to them. We have a very interesting tour of Meteora planned with a local guide.
- Visit two monasteries and walk along beautiful trails.

October 17
- Transfer to the city of Ioannina. On the way, we will stop in the distinctive village of Metsovo for lunch and a walk around the village.
- Short tour of Ioannina and a visit to the Romaniote synagogue.

October 18
After breakfast at the hotel, we will travel through the mountainous region of Tzoumerka.
We will begin getting acquainted with this beautiful area in the village of Elliniko. Here we will visit the Panagia Tsouka Monastery and admire the view of the Arachthos River gorge. We will then visit an interesting museum created by the local artist Theodoros Papagiannis. Thanks to the artist’s efforts, his native village has been transformed into a museum, making the world a little better.
- Walk a short route to the famous Plaka Bridge.
- Admire the stalactites in Anemotrypa Cave.
- Lunch in the village of Pramanta.
- Visit the ancient Kipina Monastery, attached to the rock, and learn about its fascinating history.
- Walk along the stream and admire the beautiful Kouiassa waterfalls, with the opportunity to swim in the cold water.

October 19
After breakfast at the hotel, we will set out on a journey through the beautiful Zagori nature reserve.
- In the morning, we will go rafting on the Voidomatis mountain river. This rafting route is one of the most beautiful in Europe. No previous experience or specific physical training is required to participate.
- Lunch in the village of Aristi.
- Hike from the village of Vikos to the Voidomatis springs. For those who find this route difficult, or who would like to rest after rafting, I will offer the option of relaxing in the village of Vikos and enjoying the beautiful views from the observation points.
- Short “Zagori Bridges” route.
Overnight at a hotel in Ioannina.
October 20
After breakfast at the hotel, tour of the archaeological park of Dodoni.
- On the way to Thessaloniki, a tour of Vergina with a local guide.
Overnight flight from Thessaloniki to Tel Aviv.
Cost
€1,200 for a group of 5–8 people, based on two people sharing a room.
Single-room supplement: €170.

Who is this suitable for?
- People who love mountains, nature, history, active recreation, and delicious food. There will be options for both less active and more active recreation. Consult with me.
We will stay in a beautiful town where there is always something to do: many museums, shops, a lake, a boat to the island, and much more. If you wish, you can spend one of the days relaxing independently in the town, and I will tell you what you can do.
