The Book of Seville

Bartolo fears that the drunken soldier is nothing but an agent of Almaviva. Suddenly, Don Alonso arrives, presenting himself as a music teacher and Basilio’s substitute, who has fallen ill. Figaro also arrives and demands to shave Bartolo so that Rosina and Lindoro (who is actually Don Alonso) can enjoy a few moments of peace. Suddenly, Don Basilio appears, fit as a fiddle, but everyone tries to convince him that he is indeed ill, and he leaves the place in haste. Figaro continues shaving Bartolo while the couple plans their escape, but Bartolo overhears them and angrily expels the Count and Figaro from his house.

At night, Figaro and the Count (Lindoro) arrive at Bartolo’s house and place a ladder against Rosina’s window. However, Rosina, believing Bartolo’s rumors, refuses to join Lindoro and Figaro. When the Count reveals his identity to Rosina and calms her down, they plan to leave, but unfortunately, the ladder disappears. Just at that moment, Don Basilio arrives with a lawyer intending to marry Rosina to Bartolo, but Figaro and the Count persuade them to marry Rosina to Almaviva instead. When Bartolo arrives, the marriage contract is already signed, and he has no choice but to accept his fate humbly and join everyone in congratulating the Count and his new wife, Rosina.
