In the Land of Your Love — The Quartet with Songs by Rachel and Leah

Leah Goldberg and Rachel are undoubtedly the national poets of the revitalized Israel. The similarities between them are clear: women in a man’s world, pioneers who, to a great extent, were ahead of their time.

During this special evening, we will hear a little about their personal lives: their unrequited loves, their lives without children, their immigration to the Land of Israel, but also—and perhaps primarily—about the little things: their habits, hobbies, fears, and the stories behind the poems.

To whom did Rachel write “A Locked Garden”? Who followed her and described her unique beauty? Why did Leah Goldberg leave Tel Aviv, and to whom did she write the poem Selichot?

The evening will be hosted by Sharon Idan, a journalist for over 30 years who worked at Kol Yisrael and later at Israeli Television and the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation. He is a cultural researcher who has produced many programs about cultural figures and Israeli bohemia.

Songs include: “Perhaps,” “Melancholy Song,” “A Locked Garden,” “In the Land of My Love,” “White Days,” and “Hyacinth.”
