Dramatic reading of Arthur Solomonov's novel "A Theatrical Story"
A theatrical reading of a novel by Arthur Solomonov — on December 2 at 19:00 at the ANU Museum. After the performance, the participants will hold a discussion with the audience.
Stars of the Israeli stage and actors of the new generation will meet on our stage. The role of the television presenter will be performed by a real television presenter.
Director: Roman Feodori, a six-time winner of the Russian Golden Mask theater award.
An unsuccessful actor at a famous theater dreams that he has been cast as Juliet. Soon, for the first time in many years of service, the director calls him in for an important conversation. Thus begin the humorous and sad adventures of the protagonist, involving directors, journalists, artists, oligarchs, and even religious figures.
The world of theater—funny and tragic—is presented as a symbol of contemporary society: artists are consumed by vanity and the thirst for self-realization; journalists are busy searching for anything but the truth; oligarchs and representatives of the clergy form an alliance, seeking to gain power over people’s minds—and simply power.
But other passions are also raging in the theater: the foundation of the plot is an unpredictable and dramatic love story.
This book and its theatrical reading are about a young couple, “little people,” drawn into the struggle of powerful people possessing enormous wealth and influence. Forced—and at the same time willing—to take part in the big game, they strive to please those on whom they entirely depend without losing their dignity; they even attempt to deceive forces hundreds of times more powerful than themselves.
We all understand what can emerge from such a confrontation—we are unwilling participants, accomplices, and victims of historical cataclysms, destined to live in unbearably interesting times. But perhaps there is a way out? And a choice?
In Russia, the novel went through five editions. After Arthur Solomonov was recognized as a foreign agent, the book was withdrawn from sale, and even its electronic versions suddenly became unavailable in all Russian online stores. Following this, A Theatrical Story was published in Israel by Sefer Books.
