A theater performance about three biblical women from a contemporary female perspective. November 29, 2026, 20:30, Inbal Dance Theatre in Tel Aviv.
Three actresses bring three biblical women to life: Sarah our matriarch, Naomi, and the Concubine of Gibeah.
They place them at center stage and allow them to reveal their truth through familiar biblical stories.
Sarah, who was childless; Naomi, a widow without a husband or children; and the Concubine of Gibeah, who “prostituted herself” to her husband, are regarded as women who fail to meet the requirements of a “good woman”: to be married, fertile, have many children, and be faithful.
During the biblical period, women who deviated from the accepted path were called witches and prostitutes, harassed, and banished to live beyond the wall, in no-man’s-land.
What personal price do these women pay in order to fulfill the roles defined for them, and what happens when they undermine the values and laws they know?
The performance offers a renewed reading of biblical stories from a fresh and contemporary perspective, examining the foundations that shaped Israeli Jewish society.
God’s Girlfriends is by the BLACKBOX Theatre Group, a theatre company led by director Yael Salor, working toward social change and gender equality through performances designed to change perceptions and consciousness.
