Aviv Zemer Returns to the Stage — This Time with His Seventh Book of Poetry
What happens to an Israeli man when he turns fifty and discovers that the life he imagined for himself is no longer taken for granted?
Single life drags on.
Parents grow old.
The need for love and children suddenly becomes more urgent.
Regrets find their voice.
The war outside collides with the wars within.
In his seventh book of poetry, Aviv Zemer turns to the places that a man of his generation does not always allow himself to explore.
This is a book about love and its absence, about the desire to become a father and the fear that it may already be too late, about parents gradually approaching the end of their lives, about differences between generations, about memories, regrets, and time that waits for no one.
But above all, it is a book about Israeli masculine identity at fifty — about a man trying to understand what will remain of him once the masks, roles, and expectations of society begin to fall away.
Aviv Zemer is an actor, director, producer, and poet who has worked in Israeli theater for more than two decades. He has collaborated with the Cameri Theatre, Beersheba, Tzavta, and HaSimta. He is the author of six poetry collections.
Now, with his seventh book, he returns to where it all began — to himself.
The book launch event will bring together poetry and theater, the written and spoken word, and the life we tell ourselves with life as it truly is.
