Elton John & Billy Joel — Tribute Concert by Candlelight on the Roof of an Ancient Monastery

On the roof of an old monastery in Jaffa, above the Mediterranean Sea and the evening lights of Tel Aviv, the songs of two great pianists and singers—Elton John and Billy Joel—will resound.

That evening, the stage will be illuminated by hundreds of candles, while the usual concert hall will be replaced by open skies, the sea horizon, and ancient walls.

Tommer Hesseg and his band will perform “Your Song,” “Rocket Man,” and “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”—Elton John songs that have long become part of global musical history.

Just imagine: candlelight flickering among stone walls to the sound of “Candle in the Wind.” Melodies known throughout the world echoing beneath the night sky of Jaffa. An evening awaits you filled with ballads, romance, Tommer’s extraordinary voice, and the sound of piano keys drifting up toward the clouds.

The evening will continue with Billy Joel’s music: “She’s Always a Woman,” “Just the Way You Are,” “New York State of Mind,” and, of course, “Piano Man.”

Two songwriters who knew how to turn deeply personal stories into songs for millions. Two giants of world music. New York and London will meet for one evening beneath the night sky of Old Jaffa.

It is hard to imagine a more fitting place for “Rocket Man” than a rooftop overlooking the sea, or more fitting light for “Candle in the Wind” than the glow of hundreds of candles.

Performers

Vocals — Tommer Hesseg
An Israeli singer, conductor, and composer. He holds a doctorate in music, is a graduate of the Beit-Zvi School of Performing Arts, and is a soloist and conductor with the country’s leading ensembles.

Jazz band
Musicians from the SymFunny Orchestra project in a jazz ensemble format: artists with academic experience at leading theaters and philharmonic orchestras, as well as active participants in Israel’s contemporary music scene.

Please note: The concert takes place outdoors on the grounds of an old monastery by the sea. Evenings by the sea can be cool, so we recommend bringing a light wrap or something warm in case of chilly weather.

Please also note that there is no bar or café on the monastery grounds.

The monastery entrance is from the Jaffa Promenade, not through the Old City.
