Ohad Naharin created Decadance in 2000 to mark a decade of his work at Batsheva, incorporating ten excerpts from the body of work he had created for the company up to that point. Since then, every season Naharin has returned to Decadance, presenting ever-changing adaptations of iconic excerpts from his works alongside excerpts from new works. Through meticulous editing, they become a different whole each time.
Decadance explores the possibility of a work remaining forever open, always in the process of becoming, and never final. It is an invitation to revisit phrases written for the body and the company’s diverse materials; to dive into them, knead them, observe them with a fresh perspective, and experience ourselves in relation to them time and again—yet never in the same way.
Over the years, Naharin and the dancers have repeatedly returned to Decadance as a persistent investigation, celebrating the company’s rich creative range.
