About Our Speakers: The Charedi Public
Moti Leitner founded and chairs HaTzibur HaCharedi, and sits on the Beit Shemesh
city council for Derech, the faction he built there. He was born in Jerusalem
and raised in the Rachmastrivka Hasidic community, and was educated in a Talmud
Torah and yeshivas. He trained as a Hebrew teacher, sat his matriculation exams
as an adult and retrained as a software developer, making a career in software
and DevOps. Post Oct 7th, he enlisted in the IDF.
Dr. Nechumi Yaffe is a political psycologist, former national security advisor
on Charedi affairs and founded a Charedi volunteer hub post Oct 7th. She is a
Senior Faculty Member in the School of Social and Policy Studies at Tel Aviv
University, researcher and lecturer on ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) society in
Israel, and Director of the TITA Institute, which aims to integrate the Charedi
sector into Israeli society. Dr. Yaffe is a Charedi woman from a Hasidic home,
and is one of the first Charedi researchers in academia. Her doctoral thesis
dealt with poverty and identity in Charedi society. She did her post-doctorate
work at Princeton University.
Rabbi Yehoshua Pfeffer is the Chair of the party's rabbinic committee. He is
also the Rabbi of the Ohr Chadash community in Ramot, Jerusalem, Founder and
Editor-in-Chief of Tzarich Iyun, a journal of Charedi philosophy, head of the
Charedi Israel Division of the Tikvah Fund, and a lecturer in the Faculty of Law
at Hebrew University and in other academic and religious frameworks. Pfeffer
holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in law from Hebrew University, and
completed an Israeli Supreme Court internship (under Justice Neil Hendel). He is
a Board Member of Netzah Yehuda, an organization that supports Charedi IDF
soldiers. He previously served as a Dayan (Rabbinical Judge) on a monetary
Rabbinical Court in Jerusalem, and in a variety of rabbinical and legal
positions.
