A culinary lecture by Yisrael Aharoni about the Silk Road, food, and culture. It will take place at Gray Tel Aviv, 30 Shlomo Ibn Gabirol Street.
What is the connection between Aharoni’s mother’s Bukharian food and Chinese, Italian, and Turkish cuisine? Where is the Silk Road located—and how did it influence culinary culture around the world? Who really invented pasta—the Italians or the Chinese? What additional meanings does food take on in business meetings, religious ceremonies, and dates?
In a fascinating, colorful, and humorous lecture, Israel Aharoni takes us, through personal stories, historical insights, and spectacular photographs, on a journey along the Silk Road—the ancient trade route that connected China, India, the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe. Throughout his travels, Aharoni encountered a variety of unusual foods and discovered that many of them shared a common denominator. This insight led him to explore the Silk Road and the roots of his identity and ours as human beings—and to discover that our connection to the East is embedded in all of our DNA.
Israel Aharoni is a chef, restaurateur, and one of the pioneers of haute cuisine and Chinese cuisine in Israel. The author of numerous cookbooks, he is known for popular television programs and is a gifted storyteller who brings together food, culture, and people.
