A series of meetings on the Bible as a source of inspiration for leadership, money, and coping with crises. October 14–December 23 at the Brodetsky Center for Jewish Culture, Tel Aviv.
A series of sessions led by Moriah Schlessel: Leading Figures in Israeli Society on the Bible as a Source of Inspiration for Issues of Influence, Money, Leadership, and Coping with Crises, featuring leading figures in Israeli society: Amira Bozaglo, CPA Benny Eyal, Moshe Arbel, Linor Rechav, and others.
In each session, we will examine a central theme as it appears throughout the Bible and speak with a leading guest from the worlds of business, entrepreneurship, the public sector, and Israeli society about how these ideas accompany them in decision-making, leading people, and building organizations. The series seeks to show how questions of leadership, innovation, money, faith, intergenerational relations, influence, and public responsibility are not merely questions of the 21st century, but issues that the Bible has addressed for thousands of years.
14.10 | Finding Favor and the Power of Influence | Guest speaker: Amira Bozaglo
(Media personality, creator, and content producer)
In our world, people talk about charisma, personal branding, and influence. The Bible uses another word: favor. But what is favor? Is it an innate quality? A gift? A choice? Or perhaps something created through the unique encounter between one person and another?
In this session, we will trace the concept of favor and influence in the Bible—from the story of Noah, Joseph finding favor in the eyes of everyone who saw him, and Queen Esther and her diplomacy, to Moses and the practical implications for our lives as reflected in the Book of Proverbs. We will analyze how interpersonal communication and trust-building serve as leadership tools.
In the second part, we will speak with Amira Bozaglo about the contemporary world of communications and media: How do we create genuine influence and networks of connections in the modern era? What role do favor and authenticity play in building a community? And how do we motivate people to take action?
2.11 | Did We Manage Risks in the Bible? The Connection Between the Bible and Finance | Guest speaker: CPA Benny Eyal
(Founder of The Bod consulting firm and partner in the Infinity-Eyalim investment group)
Did biblical figures manage risks? An intriguing session connecting the modern economic world with biblical stories.
We will examine biblical case studies in risk and resource management: from Joseph’s brilliant five-year economic plan in Egypt—managing reserves during years of plenty in preparation for years of famine—through carefully calculated military and political strategies, to King Solomon’s perception of wealth and material possessions.
In the second part, we will host Benny Eyal for a conversation about finance in the 21st century: How are economic and managerial decisions made under conditions of uncertainty? What is the connection between biblical risk diversification and modern portfolio management? And how do values and ethics become integrated into the management of money and the economy today?
25.11 | The Art of Managing Change and Adapting to a New Reality | Guest speaker: Moshe Arbel
(Businessman and lawyer, former Member of Knesset and minister)
How does the Bible think about change, and how does it guide us during dramatic transitions?
The Bible is filled with immense processes of change: the transition from slavery to freedom, the structural transformation of the institution of leadership—from judges to kings—and adapting to life in a new land.
We will analyze resistance to change, the need for flexibility, and the leader’s role in shaping a new reality through the stories of Abraham, Moses, David and Saul, Elisha, Ezra, and Nehemiah.
In conversation with Moshe Arbel, we will examine these issues from his perspective: How do you lead change when people prefer the familiar? What makes change legitimate? How do you exercise power and influence without falling in love with them? How do you deal with conservatism versus innovation? And what biblical tools help us navigate public responsibility in a changing and complex world?
23.12 | The Inner World of the Human Being in the Bible: Between Escape and the Resource of Return—Crisis as a Lever for Growth | Guest speaker: Linor Rechav
(Deputy Director of the Be’er Sheva Mental Health Medical Center)
Why does a person choose escape when faced with profound difficulty, and what psychological and resilience mechanisms enable them to return?
We will examine the phenomenon of escape and return throughout the Bible: from Jacob fleeing from Esau, through Moses fleeing to Midian, to the prophet Jonah attempting to escape his destiny. We will learn about moments of fear, helplessness, and avoidance, and, in contrast, about the turning points and resilience that enable return and repair.
In the second part, we will hold an in-depth conversation with Linor Rechav. Drawing on her professional experience leading the mental health system in southern Israel, we will discuss psychological and leadership resilience in times of crisis: What have we learned about ourselves as a society and as individuals following the events of October 7? What enables people and systems to “get back on track” after a fall? And how do we build an environment that enables recovery, growth, and hope in the face of life’s challenges?
