Art, Code, and the Future of Collecting / Special Gathering Following the Project: Dmitri Cherniak: Ringers in Motion (in English)

How are new technologies changing the way art is created, collected, traded, and valued?

Dmitri Cherniak, a leading generative artist, and digital art collector Benjamin Gross join curator Tal Lanir for a conversation about the evolving field of digital art.

The conversation will focus on Cherniak’s work Ringers in Motion, examining the roles of code, algorithms, randomness, and movement in his practice, and the ways in which generative art challenges traditional perceptions of the artwork as a single, finished object.

The conversation will also address the meaning of art collecting in the digital environment. Cherniak and Gross will discuss the role of blockchain in establishing ownership and documenting provenance, as well as the ways digital artworks are acquired, traded, displayed, and preserved. Through the different perspectives of an artist, collector, and curator, the conversation will examine how digital technologies are reshaping the art field and the relationships between art and the market, and what these changes may mean for the future of collecting and for the place of digital art in museums and art history.
