A concert by Avraham Felder’s big band with vocals by Dani Sagi, dedicated to Frank Sinatra. Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes.
The doors, bar, and restaurant will open at 19:00. Arriving by the time the doors open is recommended.
The veteran and magnificent big band of maestro Avraham Felder will perform at the festival with an impressive lineup bringing together several generations of musicians. The age difference between legendary veterans such as Marton Kam and Nahum Parparkovich and the young, outstanding performers exceeds 70 (!) years. Felder and his musicians will dedicate the evening to the great Frank Sinatra and invite a special guest—the singer Dani Shagai, with his velvety baritone. Together, they will fill the Shablul Jazz Club stage to capacity and captivate the audience with their warm, enveloping music. A glass of wine after a festive dinner—and there is simply no better way to spend the evening after the holiday.
Sinatra’s major breakthrough came in the early 1940s, when he was the featured singer with the orchestras of Harry James and then Tommy Dorsey—two of the leading swing big bands in the United States. It was within the framework of a large orchestra that his unique vocal style developed. Later, having become a star in his own right, he continued working with the best arrangers and orchestras, including Nelson Riddle, Billy May, and Gordon Jenkins. His albums of the 1950s and 1960s, regarded as milestones of American pop and jazz music, were mostly recorded with large orchestras and redefined the “vocalist and big band” format. Many of his iconic songs, including “I've Got You Under My Skin” and “Fly Me to the Moon,” are built on complex orchestrations in which the brass section plays a key dramatic role.
At the festival concert, Dani Shagai will perform the great classic songs of that era with elegance, accompanied by a rich orchestral sound, effortlessly and naturally embodying the spirit of Sinatra.
Avraham Felder, who immigrated from the Soviet Union in 1976, founded this ensemble about twenty years ago. Over the course of his career, he has established himself as a trumpeter, arranger, and conductor. Felder has participated in international jazz festivals and received numerous awards and honors. For more than 25 years, he has led the Tel Aviv–Jaffa Big Band and Dixieland Orchestra, accompanying younger generations of musicians on their professional journeys.
