Performance | Gal Levinson: I Have It \ It Has No End

בעקבות the album Beautiful Tropical Land, we put on raincoats and went outside onto the streets of South Tel Aviv. The heat became unbearable. Really. And we started to sweat. More and more and more. And while wiping away layers of sweat, we encountered the recurring pain and the desire to dance and make love. (Like in Rio?).

This is a 1977 album of Brazilian music translated into Hebrew, which became part of local folklore. The experience of “I grew up on this” versus “What does this have to do with me?” creates a feeling of alienation and distance, like the feelings we sometimes have toward this place (Israel?).

Out of this feeling, we set out to measure different movements and images in order to examine what remains, what has broken, and what belongs to us. What else do we have in our bodies, in this place and at this time.

Gal Levinson is a dancer and creator working in dance and performance. She holds a bachelor’s degree in dance and teaching from Kibbutzim College, and a master’s degree in performance arts and visual culture from the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid. She is also a graduate of Vertigo’s professional dancer training program and La Collectiz! program.

Her works have been developed and presented at festivals and residency programs, including: the Tzolelet Festival; the Living Gallery of the School of Visual Theatre; La Térmica (scholarship); Espacio DT; Teatro Conde Duque (Madrid); the Tights Residency at the Suzanne Dellal Centre; Habayit Festival; the Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art; the Edmond de Rothschild Center; Clipa Theater; the Jerusalem Puppet Festival; and HaHanuta Theater.
