Parent-and-child workshop in movement, play, and drawing, held on Wednesdays in October at the Yossi Banai Community Center. Intended for ages 2–4.
Kishkushology is a workshop for parents and children, focusing on the body’s spontaneous movement, graphic marking, and the connection between them. In the four-session workshop, we will dive into our imaginations, invent creations, and embark on all kinds of adventures. We will try a variety of exercises and games that will become shared dances and spectacular, colorful scribbles.
At each session, we will scribble a little differently. We will always begin with a sequence of exercises to warm up the body and establish parent-child attention. Then we will meet “The White Tabula”—an imaginary companion who is actually a smooth, blank sheet of paper. At each session, it will be a different size and positioned in a different place in the space.
In the second part of each session, we will add colors to the picture and continue moving while leaving a colorful mark. The colored lines will remind us of the movement that has passed and encourage us to continue creating more and more scribbles with our bodies.
Before a girl tells us, “I’m embarrassed,” she clings to our leg. Before a boy knows how to say, “I’m frustrated,” he stamps his feet. Before they say, “They took it from me,” they pull with all their might. The body comes before the words. But it does so quietly, and we do not always know how to listen.
In the Kishkushology workshop, the body is at the center. We have an opportunity to stop and observe our children without looking at them through smartphone cameras, and to practice a different kind of communication based on touch, movement, play, and imagination.
Noa Zamir, the workshop facilitator, is a creator and dance teacher with a master’s degree and a certificate of specialization in movement analysis from Laban College in London. She moves and inspires people to move מתוך a belief that movement is a tool for personal expression and for creating a connection with the world, and that it has the power to move not only the physical body.
