Open Rehearsal and Conversation | Michal Samama

Open rehearsal for a new work by Michal Samama, ahead of its premiere at HaBayit Theater. The rehearsal will be followed by a conversation with the creator.

Ever since I was a child, I knew that love has supreme value.

Six performers listen to contemporary reality by wandering through memories and traveling back in time.

Through movement, voice, language, and song, we return to the formative years of our lives as a private, national, and artistic experience. We conjure up the days of our youth and are swept away by a wave of quotations, imperatives, desires and external voices, music, laughter, dance lessons, flashes of parties, fragments of ideals, shards of violence and pain, truth and imitations.

From this wandering emerge togetherness and loneliness, gentleness and roughness, attentiveness and insensitivity, cynicism and naivety in the Holy Land.

The work was created as part of the Creative Development Mentorship Program at Studio for the Stage, a collaboration between the Center for Contemporary Art (CCA), Tel Aviv–Yafo, and HaBayit Theater, with the support of the Pais Council for Culture and Arts, the Yehoshua Rabinovich Foundation for the Arts Tel Aviv, the Choreographers’ Association, and the Ministry of Culture.

Michal Samama is a choreographer and performer who creates works at the intersection of dance, theater, and visual art, moving between stage, gallery, and public spaces. In recent years, her works have been presented, among other venues, at the Israel Festival, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, “Batsheva Hosts,” the “Tel Aviv Dance” Festival, the “Diver” Festival, the Weizmann Institute of Science, Beit Ariela Library, the Holon Center for Digital Art, the “Kelim” Choreography Center in Bat Yam, international exposure events at the Suzanne Dellal Center, the International Dance Week in Jerusalem, the “Loving Art. Making Art” events of the Tel Aviv–Yafo Municipality, HaBayit Theater in Jaffa, and Acre Theater. In previous years, she presented a solo exhibition at the Petah Tikva Museum of Art and created works at Sommer Gallery, the Manofim Contemporary Art Festival in Jerusalem, the Curtain Up festivals, Intimadance, Gallery 16, Kibbutz Gallery, and the Performance Art Stage, as well as in major venues in New York, Chicago, and elsewhere. She collaborates as a creator, performer, and artistic mentor with various artists. She holds a master’s degree in art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

The work is intended for ages 14 and up.
The rehearsal and conversation will be held in Hebrew.
