Michael Getman’s pulsating, poetic work, Passion Is a Lonely Hunter, invites the audience into an alternative Genesis story—not one of perfect creation, but of primal impulse and exposed emotion.
As in the powerful poem Passionnément by the poet Ghérasim Luca, this work, too, unfolds as a stage journey in which words, movement, gaze, and clapping collapse and are reborn, embodying the living tension between primal impulse and its expression through the body.
In a space that eludes all attempts at capture, even the failure to communicate becomes a form of success—a testament to the stubborn, unceasing striving to return to the source of things.

Michael Getman is the son of Dora and Zachariah, who immigrated to Israel as part of “Operation Wedding,” an attempted hijacking of a civilian aircraft by Jewish dissidents seeking to escape the Soviet Union.
His choreographic work is characterized by multiple points of view. It reflects on the subtle connections between action, movement, expression, and language; examines the body’s responses to extreme situations; and echoes historical, cultural, and poetic contexts.
Alongside his artistic work, Michael is regularly invited to lead workshops and master classes at leading dance institutions in Israel and around the world.
He began his training at the Bat-Dor Dance Studio, directed by Jeanette Ordman. He later joined the Batsheva Ensemble under the artistic direction of Naomi Perlov, and subsequently danced with the Batsheva Dance Company under the artistic direction of Ohad Naharin, as well as with Pretty Ugly Ballet Freiburg in Germany, under the artistic direction of Amanda Miller.
