Beauty is found in the spaces where something develops from casual and valueless to highly meaningful and evocative.
Trivial exchanges between people, spoken casually in random situations, curate and collect countless shards of reality, as those very same things are timed and staged in the gallery space of the museum. The spoken words pass through a prism of beauty. Beauty grants them added value.
The audience is led by the performers on a sensory journey. Sometimes they act as shepherds of the audience, sometimes they encircle it, sometimes they blend into it, and sometimes they leave it be. The vocal and physical engagement with the local artistic canon and the Israeli gallery space evolves into a joint action between the performers and the audience, containing comfort and beauty.
The piece is written in English from an external perspective on the Israeli mentality, and also to ease and distance us slightly from the place we are in. The foreign and Israeli characters within it grapple and confront each other while trying to hide hatred and ugliness against a problem that seems unsolvable.
The work, written shortly before October 7th, has since acquired a new and tangible dimension, echoing the feelings of lawlessness and vulnerability that replaced solidarity and the knowledge that someone was at the other end.
The text written by Ariel Bronz for the piece expresses the difficulties of our existence in a multi-dimensional way, living in a space where speech becomes metaphor, and gestures that are routine reveal themselves as mines of beauty.
The vocal composition is built as a contemporary requiem performed live for five voices. Roi Ben Sira reveals layers of meaning in the text through the mesmerizing power of music. He weaves new connections that transform the mundane into the sublime. His sonic imaginative world in the vocal piece is a spectrum stretching from the Middle Ages to the present day, with an attraction to both the traditional and the avant-garde. The electronic spaces and beats of Ra Mochiach provide the shell for the vocal piece, and the combination of the two is thrilling and miraculous.
The beauty of beauty lies in the attempt to restore strength and vitality to that patch of purity in the soul, which was trampled under ugliness and destruction. The spirit seeks to return and manifest itself in our lives, to blow as a tailwind so that we may continue.
