Raanan Habusha, one of the distinctive and intriguing voices in contemporary Israeli jazz, arrives at Shvavol for a celebratory concert marking the release of his new album, About To Change. This evening explores jazz intersecting with rock, blues, funk, world music, and ambient sound, flowing freely between explosive energy and intimate, deeply emotional passages. Habusha is a guitarist, composer, and arranger who graduated from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance and the academic program of the Israeli Conservatory in partnership with The New School in New York. Over the years, he has collaborated with leading musicians including Daniel Zamir, Yair Dalal, and Yonatan Wolchok, composed music for Gesher Theatre, and his debut album, Fresh Stories, received critical acclaim and extensive airplay both in Israel and abroad. Habusha’s music draws inspiration from the jazz tradition yet ventures into new terrain with rich harmonies, intricate rhythms, free improvisation, and a contemporary sonic palette that refuses to be boxed in. After six years of shared artistic development, his tightly knit quartet presents a personal and cohesive musical language, where each musician acts as a full partner in the journey.
For this performance, internationally recognized pianist Omri Mor will appear as a guest—among Israel’s most prominent figures on the global jazz scene, known for his unique synthesis of jazz, North African music, flamenco, and classical repertoire. Also joining as a special guest is saxophonist Dekel Epstein, making this a rare, one-night-only gathering of some of the most captivating voices in Israel’s local jazz community.
